Caprock offense produces

Include Caprock in the conversation when discussing the top offenses in the Panhandle.

The Longhorns (1-1) are averaging 458.5 yards a game, less than 2 yards a game behind fellow District 3-4A foe Canyon.

The Longhorns piled up 515 yards in last week's 38-21 win against San Angelo Lake View. Senior running back Jamar Johnson came up big, with 255 yards and four touchdowns on 26 carries, along with six catches for 43 yards, and he even threw a touchdown pass, a 56-yarder to Tobias Milton.

But Johnson is a known quantity, and his production hasn't been surprising. Milton had five catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns, and junior quarterback Gerardo Ruiz threw for 313 yards in a season-opening 28-27 loss to Borger.

Third-year Caprock coach Seth Parr knew the elements were there for a successful offense, but he wasn't sure how quickly they'd come together.

"In the past when it seemed like we were starting to get it, then we flopped," Parr said. "It's like a curveball when you think you've got it then drops out from under you. I had a lot of confidence in Jamar at our quarterback, but I had some questions about our offensive line. But things have worked so far."
