Friday Rewind
Tascosa 24
Amarillo High 21
The 53rd meeting of this storied rivalry played out before 15,000 fans in Dick Bivins Stadium and was a classic between the pair of 2-0 teams. Big hits. Rolling the dice on fake punts. A constant flow of energy from the massive crowd.
Tascosa's Will Smith scored the opening TD less than four minutes into the game on a 64-yard pass reception, ending AHS' shutout streak at eight quarters and sending the momentum Tascosa's way early. AHS fought back with a late touchdown on a sneak from J.C. Casas, then a two-point conversion pass from Casas to a diving Heath Herrington closed the game within three. But this was Tascosa's night to shine behind quarterback Dalton Brooks' run-pass effort (220 yards passing, 85 yards rushing) and first-year head coach Ken Plunk.
