Who's hot: Perryton Rangers

When it comes to openers at least, Perryton has been as hot as anybody the past two seasons. The Class 3A Rangers beat Class 4A Dumas, 27-21, on Friday, the second straight season Perryton has opened by beating the Demons.

The Rangers had a big offensive game, with an almost perfectly balanced attack which picked up 404 yards. Quarterback C.J. Swift was a dual threat, completing 11-of-19 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns and running for 71 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown. Both of Swift's scoring passes went to Jake Holguin, who had five catches for 132 yards, including a 52-yarder with 1:36 left which provided the winning score.

Shane Hodge provided some balance in the running game by picking up 92 yards on 21 carries and scoring.

The challenge continues for the Rangers as they stay on the road for a second straight week, playing at Bushland, the No. 3 team in Class 2A.
